You say you want a Retribution?

Some very early WIPs of the latest commission.  I've currently got full MHSF and 2 Stormfall units underway.

Check out this joker. Look Ma! No leg below the thigh!

eKaya & Laris

Finally posting up a caster!

Epic Kaya is one of those casters that looks fun to play on paper, but is a little bit of a disappointment on the table - at least for me.  I love the character, but playing her instead of. . . say. . . eMorvahna or Kromac . . . yeah, I just don't see it.

Add to that her less than inspiring model and you have a mess.

Well, at least I can do something about the model!  Here I've swapped her weapon to her off-hand (hand is GS), and replaced the left with one from the bit pile.  She now resembles her artwork more closely!

Though she's usually portrayed in a red cloak, I put her in a black cloak because in my army all druids wear black.  They're called 'blackclads' afterall!  That, and red doesn't really provide contrast to the autumn orange that dominates the model.

I love Laris' model.  He's that rare wolf model that actually has muscle definition you can get your brush into!  I also love how front-heavy he is and how the momentum of the model's pose is forward and aggressive.  Howling wolves are nice, but low and poised to strike is much more menacing.

Warpborn Skinwalkers

The new rock stars of Circle Orboros, the Skinwalkers + UA now make it into practically every list I make.  This was a unit where the models were so good, it hurt that they paled in comparison to other infantry options.  Now that they have a killer UA, they occupy that happy nexus of beauty and effectiveness that makes them a joy to field!

Note: I've only included the unique poses below.  There is a full unit sitting on the shelf.

Reeves and Reeve Hunter

These guys took an inordinate time to paint vs. their value/effectiveness on the table, but I can't hate them for it.  The models look cool, and sometimes, out of the blue, they mow down opposing infantry with cascading CRAs.

Color choice-wise, I needed these guys to fit in with the rest of the army, but their cloaks couldn't match the blackclad druids - that would be highly inappropriate.  Instead, they got a lighter gray with camo (which fits, since the Reeve Hunter grants them camoflage!).

So here's the Reeve Hunter.  I love this guy, and only wish he had an extra pip in MAT & RAT so he could actually pull off all his special rules.

And here's the unit.  Note: I only included the five unique poses in the pic.  There is actually a full unit on the shelf.

Another Retribution Color Test

Just another color test for a commission job

More Druids

Disclaimer!  The backgrounds for these pictures, through the magic of digital photos and editing software, have turned an icy blue.  The colors on the models, however, are fairly true to the actual minis

Solos & UAs!

Blackclad Wayfarer - Eagle-eyed viewers will note that this guy's right arm and weapon were swapped.  He came in a poor state as part of a gifted lot from my good friend, Angelo, so he needed some rehab from the bit pile.

Stalker Conversion #2

Created from an old Pureblood Warpwolf and the plastic Warpwolf Boxed set, I give you Stalker Conversion #2!

In an effort to make him as Stalker-ish as possible, I swapped the entire arms for Stalker arms.  I had a notion to replace the head as well, but the PB head has so much character I couldn't do it.  I did have to replace most of the should spikes with greenstuff, tho.  For whatever reason, the spikes always seem to be missing from older second-hand PB models.

Anyway, I'm pretty chuffed with the result.  Its by far my favorite model in my Circle Orboros collection.

You  can see the pre-painted conversion HERE

Pureblood Warpwolf

I think there's an easy consensus for Circle players that this is the best warpwolf model Privateer Press has ever made.  Its a shame the piece doesn't make it into the game very much, but not surprising when you weigh it against the Feral and the Stalker.

Anyway, the model is worth painting and displaying, so that's what I'm doing

Retribution Color Test

Testing out armor and cloth colors for a new commission.

Stalker Conversion

My good friend Angelo had this spare, old-sculpt Pureblood Warpwolf still in his collection, and he was kind enough to pass it my way.  He was missing an arm, but no worries!  I like to think of him as a 'rescue'.  But who rescued who? <sniff>

Here you can see the conversion roughed-out.  GS will eventually fill the gaps, but I'm happy with the pose.  I think its full of movement and looks like either he's just landed an awesome jump, or poised to spring.

I'm undecided as to whether I want to redo the nose to be more 'stalker-like'.

Ninja Stalker Finished

I call this guy Ludacris - cuz he's got big hands!  Anyone remember the video?  No?  Oh, well. . .

Actually, he doesn't have big hands, its just a trick of perspective.  Its the hand that the sword came with, more or less.

Gorax

I freaking love this model!

I realized today that its been since last September that I've posted any pics, so its long past due.  My lack of posted pics doesn't mean I haven't been painting.  It just means I haven't been posting. . .
